Cheadle Catholic Junior School
Curriculum Intent, Implementation and Impact
Intent
Our unique curriculum is designed around the national curriculum to prepare our children academically, socially, morally, and spiritually for each step in their learning journey. It has been developed in close collaboration and partnership with Cheadle Catholic Infant school, to create a cohesive, sequenced curriculum resulting in a smooth transition for the children and opportunity for spaced learning.
Our curriculum seeks to feed children's curiosity in order for them to become life-long learners and set them on the right path, forward in faith, following in the footsteps of Jesus.
Implementation
Our curriculum is delivered through quality-first teaching, which is rooted in our teaching and learning policy. We promote best practice and ensure there is a consistent approach to teaching and learning across school, which is informed by the latest research evidence.
Our curriculum is carefully sequenced and enables children to close gaps in existing knowledge and concepts and build a new understanding in a comprehensive, long-term way.
Curriculum subjects are taught separately so that they develop a true appreciation of the subject. Key vocabulary is taught at age and themed appropriate times. Subject concepts are used as drivers to help children know more and remember more, and subject specific disciplinary skills are taught explicitly.
Impact
Children’s knowledge, understanding and progress across all subject areas as well as their desire and ability to learn will be measured by information from a range of sources including - book scrutiny, in depth book study, performance data, pupil voice, learning walks, collaborative research projects, internal and local cluster moderation, and all stakeholders voices.
Our internal and external data reflect strong outcomes in both progress and attainment. Pupils' work shows a learning journey, which is creative, challenging and develops curiosity.
